In this article, weāre going to be talking about the top 6 best vibrato Pedals that you can get for your guitar rig in 2023.
Modulation pedals are becoming more and more popular, and whilst the vibrato is a classic effect, its still considered a vital effect for achieving a specific guitar tone. In this article we have six vibrato pedals that we consider to be the best and therefore most suitable for you. Weāll take a look there features and performance as well as suggest what guitar players each pedal is for. Finally weāll give our number one pick, best value for money and premium choice.
What Is A Vibrato Pedal?
In the realm of modulation pedals, vibrato could be considered as half way between a chorus and tremolo effect. Similar in sound to the tremolo, there is a fundamental difference between the two effects. Tremelo decreases and increases the volume of the signal at a specific rate, whereas Vibrato alters the pitch, hence the similarities to the analog chorus pedal effect.
So what the difference between vibrato and chorus then? Well the chorus effects splits the signal in two and then proceeds to change the pitch of one of them. Vibrato does no split the signal and the pitch of the whole signal chain is effected. Much has been discussed about the more natural sound of the tremolo in comparison to the chorus, however this depends on how the pedal is set up.
Many legendary guitar players have utalized vibrato into their sound. This influenced the vibe pedal which is essentially in the same family as the vibrato, the difference being that it has a more phaser-like sound. Of course vibrato has been housed in pedal form for many years. For the most part, they consist of similar controls such as depth, speed and rate. Due to the nature of the effect, and its similarities to chorus, some premium vibrato pedals include other functionality and character then the standard vibrato mode.

BOSS Waza Craft VB-2W
Available On AmazonĀ āĀ Check Current Price
The original VB-2W vibrato pedal was the ultimate pedal in the 80ās and was sadly discontinued like several other original Boss pedals. Incredibly Waza Craft have stepped in to return many of them pedals to glory. On the original pedal, as BBD-driven circuit was used to produce a warm undertone which many regard as the perfect vibrato tone.
Now the pedal has two modes, standard and custom which give a much more transparentĀ sound whilst maintaining all the former glory of the VB-2W. Custom mode is much much more intense and it adds a low pass filter that seems to widen the tone. Standard mode will keep you within the boundaries of the classic Boss vibrato sound.
The controls on the Boss VB-2W are: rate, depth, rise time and the standard to custom switch. All analog circuitry is the real shining light on this pedal for us, as it reminds us so much of the original pedal. The housing is the standard Boss compact style which virtually makes the pedal indestructible. Basically, weāre just glad that this pedal exists!
Who Should Buy This Pedal?
Considering the original Boss VB-2B was only produced between 82 and 86, it is an extremely rare pedal which you will pay well over the odds to own. We believe that the Waza Craft VB-2B is just as good in sound and perhaps the best vibrato around. Boss lovers should own this pedal, especially if youāre fond of the analog series that Waza Craft bring to the table. The build is fantastic, sound is amazing and really not that expensive considering.

A vibrato pedal is an effects pedal for guitars that adds a modulating pitch-shifting effect to your guitar playing. It creates a warbling or wobbling sound that simulates the natural vibrato produced by bending strings.
How does a vibrato pedal work?
A vibrato pedal typically modulates the pitch of the guitar signal by varying the speed and depth of the effect. It achieves this by altering the frequency of the audio signal, creating a fluctuating pitch.

How do I use a vibrato pedal?

Can I use an expression pedal with a vibrato pedal?
Yes, many vibrato pedals have an expression pedal input that allows you to control the speed or depth of the effect in real-time using an external expression pedal. This adds an extra level of control over your sound.
What are the typical controls on a vibrato pedal?
Most vibrato pedals have at least three control knobs: speed (or rate), depth, and blend (or mix). The speed knob adjusts the rate of the vibrato effect, the depth knob controls the intensity or depth of the effect, and the blend knob determines the balance between the dry (unaltered) and wet (effected) signals.
How does a vibrato pedal differ from a chorus pedal?
While both vibrato and chorus pedals modulate the pitch of the guitar signal, they produce different effects. Vibrato pedals create a fluctuating pitch, emulating the natural vibrato of a singer or instrumentalist. Chorus pedals, on the other hand, create a thicker, shimmering sound by duplicating the signal and introducing slight delays and pitch variations.
What is latch mode on a vibrato pedal?
Latch mode is a feature found on some vibrato pedals that allows you to engage or disengage the effect with a single footswitch press. In latch mode, the effect remains active until you press the footswitch again to turn it off.
Can I adjust the speed and depth of the vibrato effect in real-time?
Yes, most vibrato pedals let you adjust the speed and depth of the effect on the fly. This can be done either by using the control knobs on the pedal itself or by connecting an expression pedal to control these parameters.
How long does it take for the vibrato effect to reach its full depth?
The time it takes for the vibrato effect to reach its full depth depends on the specific pedal you are using. Some pedals offer instant depth, while others have a gradual ramp-up. Itās best to consult the pedalās manual or experiment with different settings to achieve the desired effect.
What is a buffered bypass switch on a vibrato pedal?
A buffered bypass switch is a type of bypass used in some vibrato pedals. It employs a buffer circuit that helps maintain the quality of your guitar signal when the effect is bypassed. It can prevent signal loss and preserve the high-frequency content of your sound.
What power source does a vibrato pedal use?
Most vibrato pedals use a standard 9V DC power supply. It is important to check the pedalās specifications or manual to ensure you provide the correct power source to avoid damaging the pedal.
Which vibrato pedal offers presets or programmable settings?
While not all vibrato pedals have preset or programmable settings, some more advanced models do offer this feature. This allows you to save and recall different configurations of the pedal, making it easier to switch between your preferred settings.
What is the depth of the vibrato effect?
The depth of the vibrato effect refers to the intensity or amount of pitch modulation applied to the guitar signal. Higher depth settings result in a more pronounced and noticeable vibrato effect, while lower settings produce a subtler modulation.
Can a vibrato pedal also be used as a chorus pedal?
Yes, some vibrato pedals can produce a chorus-like effect in addition to vibrato. This allows you to create a wide range of modulated sounds, including both chorus and vibrato textures.
What is one of the most versatile vibrato pedals?
The Chase Bliss Audio Warped Vinyl is often regarded as one of the most versatile vibrato pedals available. It offers a wide range of control over your sound, including unique modulation options, expression pedal integration, and extensive parameter adjustments.

To create the perfect vibrato sound with a pedal, experiment with different speed and depth settings to find the desired amount and speed of modulation. Additionally, try adjusting the blend control to balance the wet and dry signals to your preference.
What are some key pedal features to consider when choosing a vibrato pedal?
When choosing a vibrato pedal, consider factors such as the control options available, versatility of the pedal, expression pedal input, buffered bypass switch, power requirements, build quality, and the specific sound characteristics you are looking for in a vibrato effect.
